Ultra X is currently Release SOON!
Ultra X is in the Development stage, we currently have a working stable build. But we are still Branding it and tweaking a few things so we get it right the first try. Yeah right there are always bugs. Ultra X is based off of the UBUNTU 8.04 build and is Debian based. Ultra X sports GNOME and KDE 4.0 X Windows. All of your favorite packages are included: WINE, Auto Script, Fire Fox, Thunder Bird, Python and so on and so on. Minor Kernel alterations and some unique things to love make Ultra X a Distro to love. Check it out at http://ultraxlinux.org go to downloads and have fun!

What exactly makes Ultra X special, might I ask? I haven't seen anything anywhere that begs me to use it.
ReplyDelete"Supports KDE and Gnome" so does Ubuntu and every other distro.
"WINE, Auto Script, Fire Fox, Thunder Bird, Python and so on and so on"
Firefox is standard in most, and thunderbird isn't uncommon either, and wine is a matter of "sudo apt-get install wine" in Ubuntu (though you're better having the wine repo's for it)
Yes, I can see Wine might be advantageous to have pre-installed, but I haven't seen anything that screams "use me!!!"
"Minor kernel alterations" What makes these significantly better than the kernel used by Ubuntu, tested by thousands, or better than the mainstream kernel (which you can now have in Ubuntu via a.deb)
Sorry, but I just don't see anything screaming at me to use this distro, and I normally try everything.
Yes, what differs this distro from regular ubuntu besides the artwork?
ReplyDeleteYou must have a reason for making this distro, why not post that on your website?
As one who has been involved with the Linux world since forever the proliferation of distributions with minor, and sometimes insignificant, differences is tiresome. Unless you are going to make a special purpose release or do something like what Ubuntu did with Debian it seems like such a wast of energy. If Ultra X Linux is something along this line then that's great. But if it's just going to be another Fedora/Ubuntu/Slackware/SUSE/Mandrake/etc. desktop option then what's the purpose?
ReplyDeleteAlthough there are some negative feedback towards Ultra X Linux, I do still believe that this distro could be doing well among the current Linux users. Well, if those critics want Ultra X Linux to be different, make it be so. I mean, there are some or even bunches of modification space that you guys can exploit. As an example, you can add some special features such as pre-installed wireless drivers, all-in-one media player and so on.
ReplyDeleteForget about antivirus. Most viruses are harmless in Linux environment. Trust me. Hey, please add more snapshot and put the desktop screenshot instead of the wallpaper. Only then you can expect more users.
